etsy adventure in new york

Heyyyaaa,

So where was I last week, and what was I doing? Good question, I don't even know, I think I must have been at home dreaming...

Times Square! I love America, the lights, the fast food, the brands. It's the ultimate pop culture and busy makes me happy, hopefully I can convince Jacques to holiday there this year!

No, but seriously if you didn't already see (social media means I've almost always told you everything before it even makes it to the blog!) I was in New York celebrating Etsy going public!

I was one of 23 sellers invited to Times Square last Thursday to join the celebration! It was completely mad. I wasn't able to tell anybody I was in New York due to signing a none disclosure agreement so it was a surprise to even my family! All of my friends have since told me I'm a terrible liar however.

If you want to find out more about exactly what I did on the day, take a look at the Brighton Etsy Team blog.

I wanted to share some of of my adventures around New York, including my day trip to Coney Island and my visit to the Etsy office in Brooklyn!

Etsy turned Times Square orange as the Bell rang

Group shot of all the sellers invited to the ceremony! I'm there on the left repping a sabre tooth!

The Etsy market in Times Square, so many awesome sellers so much orange!

Went to visit the Etsy office in Dumbo, Brooklyn. This place has some pretty awesome street art

More large scale awesome street art

In the Etsy office, I may have mentioned before that the error message that occurs on Etsy with the lady knitting a three armed jumper is a real thing that Etsy programmers get if they bring the site down!

Giant owl sculpture in the foyer at Etsy. I don't know why but this area made me think I was in the Beetlejuice waiting room, in a good way...

Coney Island! The Luna Park was shut as it's out of season but the weather was totally LUSH!

Coney Island is in all the movies and the boardwalk and beach were super sweeeet! I met a girl on the train who was also day tripping and we hung out and got burgers and beers, HI CLAUDEE!

I love colours, fairgrounds and blue skies, not much else could have made me as happy.

I wish I could have asked for hints and tips of where to go and what to do as I love hearing what you guys get up to, but this time I was almost gone before I could even tell anybody I was there!

Have you been to New York? What's your favourite bit?

etsy captains summit

YO!

A couple of weeks ago I was selected along with Toby one of my Brighton Etsy Team leaders to go to the UK Etsy Captains' Summit. If you have read my blog before, you may know that this was my fifth summit to date!

Our #btnetsy necklace and George hanging out! (This is the photo that won me a notebook!)
We traveled down to Bristol and met up with other experienced team captains and leaders that we had met at previous summits for dinner and discussed our plans for 2015, how last years pop ups and markets went and what we were looking forward to that weekend!

Saturday morning started with an ice breaking scavenger hunt on board the SS Great Britain, oh I didn't mention our venue was a boat right?! We had to find a monkey, somebody giving birth and somebody being sick amongst other things and in our group we had the two Bristol captains, Laurence and Grace and the the two French admins including Sophie (my new found sole/soul sister)

Sophie dressed as a Victorian!
The day continued with presentations workshops and talks about the upcoming Etsy Made Local event (keep your eyes and ears open for EML Brighton this Christmas!) as well as hints and tips for Captains and some mini presentations about last years Pop Up success stories!

The days at the Summit are long and intense but worth every minute. I did have mini tantrum as I couldn't log onto the WiFi until mid afternoon and I was itching to share news and new found knowledge with the team. But that aside we finished at 6pm with a notebook FULL of ideas and went back to the hotel to change for dinner.

Toby and Grace hanging out on the anchor
Dinner was delicious! I'm not a photos of my food kinda gal, so there aren't any photos of that but I can assure you that if you are in Bristol that I would recommend The Olive Shed.

Just before dinner was served I was awarded UK Team Captain 2015 which is an honour and was truly a surprise! I really love the Brighton Etsy Team and the projects, collaborations and events we get to run with the team wouldn't be possible without my INCREDIBLY AWESOME team leaders and my ever enthusiastic team members!

Sunday Toby and I rocked up looking like drowned rats as it was chucking it down, my make up was melting down my face. This was obviously the day that a group photo was taken so I chose to hide behind Emily as that's not a look I want to be reminded of!

Toby on super concentrate mode
The day was full of PR, Social Media, Leadership and Craft Party presentations and I even won a notebook for having the most instagram likes on a photo tagged with #etsycaptainssummit. I did slightly cheat however as the photo also had George in it and you all love George!

If you want to read a bit more about the Summit check out Toby's blog post.

Sorry this post wasn't up on Tuesday, if you follow us on instagram, twitter or facebook you will have seen that I was in New York this week celebrating at the Etsy Bell Ringing Ceremony.

More to come on this next week!

WIWT. OOTD.

An OOTD, WIWT, me in clothes post! Encouraged by the Brighton Etsy Team members I have decided to do my first outfit post...

My wonderful sister took the photos for me and I'm not sure who will take my next ones without laughing at me!

I was visiting my family and we were off out for lunch, not that that made much difference to what I have chosen to wear as this is probably my favourite dress at the moment and I nearly always wear my Nikes unless I have to wear "grown up" shoes.

Please ignore the yellow-y tinge to my hair, I dyed it fluro yellow and this is the remains as I wait for it to wash out properly! Brassy is Chic.

Trainers | Nike Air Force 1
Dress | Lazy Oaf
Tights | American Apparel
Necklace | designosaur (obvs)
Clutch | ASOS (present from Toby, thanks Toby! - I'm not going to link it cos I'm not going to look it up, cos that's rude.)

Rings [L - R]

Green Glass | Partially Obscured
Silver confetti cloud | Pylones
FUN | Lazy Oaf
White "milky" rectangle | Plyones

Heart Spin the Bottle | Me and Zena
Lilac Unicorn | designosaur
Gold Zig Zag | River Island
Pyrate Gold Ring | (Amelia bought me this from Renegade Craft Fair, I can't remember the brand, if anybody recognises it please let me know!)

Do you like seeing what I wear? How I style my designosaur? I hope so as I have set myself the task of 4 more of these outfit posts to achieve my NYR!

ROAR!
